Privacy notice

Kiteshot is a managed drone service based in Cape Town, South Africa. We are the responsible party for the personal information described here. Our information officer can be reached at [email protected].

We collect what you send us in our forms:

• Your name, email address, phone number and company.
• For a price or booking: the site location and boundary, the service you choose and any notes.
• For pilots and operators: your base town, how far you travel, licence and certificate details, drones, insurer and availability.
• For drone owners: your drone, your licence status and your town.
• Messages you send us, and the town you vote for or join the waitlist for.

We also collect some information automatically:

• A cookie that remembers the link or website that brought you to us, for 90 days, so we know which channel works.
• A cookie that remembers the country you chose on the site.
• Standard server and network logs, such as your IP address and browser, which we use for security.

Our flights photograph the site a customer books. Photos can show people, vehicles or neighbouring property. Pilots fly to a written brief that keeps to the customer's site, and we do not use flight images to identify people.

We blur faces and number plates on request. To ask, email [email protected] with the address and date of the flight.

• To answer your request, give you a price, book a pilot and deliver the work.
• To check pilots' licences, certificates and insurance, offer them jobs and pay them.
• To keep the records aviation and tax rules require.
• To pay commission to a Kiteshot partner who introduced you, and to see which channels bring enquiries.
• To send you updates you asked for, such as launch news. You can unsubscribe at any time.

• The pilot or operator who flies your job gets the site details and the brief they need to fly it.
• If a Kiteshot partner introduced you, we tell that partner that you started working with us and the value of the work, so we can pay their commission.
• Specialists, such as engineers or thermographers, when you ask for work that needs them.
• Service providers who run parts of our service for us: website hosting, email delivery, network security and image analysis. They may only use the information to provide that service.
• Authorities, such as the SACAA or SARS, when the law requires it.

We do not sell personal information.

Our website and database run on servers in the European Union, and some service providers, such as our email provider, are in the United States. We only use providers that protect personal information to a standard at least as high as POPIA requires.

• Records of jobs and flights: for at least 5 years, as aviation rules require.
• Enquiries and waitlist entries that do not lead to work: up to 2 years, then we delete them.
• Pilot applications that do not lead to work: up to 2 years, or sooner if you ask.

We use encrypted connections, limit who can see personal information, and keep backups. If a breach puts your information at risk, we tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.

You can ask us to:

• Tell you what personal information we hold about you, and give you a copy.
• Correct or delete it.
• Stop using it for a purpose, including direct marketing.

If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa): inforegulator.org.za.

If you are in the United Kingdom or the United States, you have similar rights under local law. Contact us to use them.

We update this notice when our use of personal information changes. The date at the top shows the latest version.
